Surface water and groundwater benefits. After the project is completed, nitrogen going into groundwater will be reduced by 78 percent and into the Carlls River by 31 percent. There will also be the elimination of nutrients and other pollutants from groundwater and surface water reaching Belmont Lake, Carlls River and Great South Bay.

By investing in infrastructure that will provide clean water for years to come, the project will reduce the environmental impact of sewers in the communities of Deer Park, North Babylon, West Babylon, Wyandanch and West Islip.
